On 2 July 2024, the European Union (EU) approved an amendment to the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR) that allows module-by-module deployment of the European Database on Medical Devices (EUDAMED). A new timeline from the European Commission for EUDAMED implementation states that the mandatory use of the Unique Device Identification (UDI) and Device Registration module will begin no later than January 2026.
